Dog potty training is highly impossible if your dog is no longer a pup. The best time to potty train your dogs is when they are still pups because the older they get, the harder it gets for you to teach them anything so once you get that puppy, start dog potty training as early as possible. Old dogs cannot learn new tricks, remember?
The first rule to remember is once your dog eat, you would only have to wait for 15 minutes before it makes that food into poop and that goes the same way with water -only this time it’s pee. Your job as his or her owner is to get your dog do his or her business where you want it and not cleaning up poop all your dog’s life.
Training rule number 2 is for you and your pup to go out in your backyard early in the morning or as soon as the both of you are awake already. Do this after he finishes his first meal as well. Dogs, especially puppies, love taking naps. Be sure that when your puppy wakes up from his nap that you take him out for a walk in your backyard. If you love giving your pup lots of snacks, wait for 15 minutes for him to digest it and then go out for a walk with your dog again so he could do his pooping in the yard or wherever you want him to.
The third rule is to praise your dog once he or she poops in the yard. Your cheery voice will send a signal to the dog’s brain that he or she just made you so happy and your dog will surely do his or her pooping in the yard more frequently.
Rule 4 is to let your dog eat when you have the time to take a walk. When it comes to water intake for your doggie, control his water intake when he is still untrained but be sure to have a lot of time in your hands because dogs need to be hydrated too.
An untrained puppy becomes a problem especially during summer when the weather is dry so be sure to either give your dog a rigid crash course or make time for him so you can teach him slowly.
Rule number 5 will be a bit difficult for puppy and dog lovers but it has to be implemented. Once your dog had a poop accident i.e. pooping in a prohibited space, ignore your dog and clean up his mess as quietly as possible. Punishing or yelling your dog will not make him learn it will only confuse him. For some dogs, you yelling or being mad might be a bit amusing because hey, they cannot understand your language!
Keeping your pet with your when you two are in the house is rule no.6. Doing this will prevent any of those untoward pooping and peeing accidents and it will also strengthen your bond with your dog. Good luck on your potty training!

Many dog owners nowadays struggle with the problem of house breaking and training. Although humane and gentle methods have worked to solve this problem, there are some owners that use drastic methods out of frustration and desire to have their pet house trained quickly.
In order to get the behavior the dog owner wants, he/she has to find a training method that is right for the dog. It could be training through constant supervision or training with the use of housebreaking aids such as paper or cage. Although, using both also produces results.
Even though cage training is effective, you will find a lot of concerns about this method. Many people think that by using a cage or any other sort of related training aid in general is inhumane and that it shouldn’t be forced on dogs. Although, using a cage has proven to be the most effective and efficient of the many ways to train your dog.
Why? First, because dogs are den dwelling creatures. For centuries dogs have been known to go to a den if they wanted warmth in cold weather or to cool of in the heat. They consider their den as their home in which they are safe from harm. Therefore a cage should feel like home for them – not a cage!
Second, dogs are naturally clean animals and will try not to soil their cages as much as possible. Placing your dog inside the cage will help your dog control his bladder or bowel until he is taken out to potty at the appropriate spot. Since puppies are still young, they should be taken out regularly and more often than an older dog since they only have a limited control over their bladder and bowel movements. Taking these steps will help your puppy establish a schedule for bathroom trips.
You can get a cage in many different styles and made from various materials. You can find cages at your pet supply stores, hardware stores, or in the pet section of some department stores. When you purchase a cage for your pet, consider their needs and consider why you are buying the cage. If you travel, consider purchasing a cage made of plastic for your dog, as wire cages will not protect them from extremes of temperature. You should also think about the size of the cage. Buying a new create when he has outgrown the old one costs a lot of money. You can easily buy a large cage for your puppy to grow into and simple block off the area of the cage that the puppy does not need, so he/she can’t go to that area to void.
Be consistent and determined when housebreaking your dog using your cage. Your housebreaking issues will soon disappear if you do this properly.

I remember a time when the "rolled up newspaper" method of dog training was the accepted norm. Back then, many trainers taught their dogs to do amazing things (and do them quite well) using methods that most folks today would consider "cruel". I’m not advocating any particular school of training here, but I was wondering: What happened that most people changed their training habits? How did positive reinforcement start, and do you think it will continue to be the preferred method of dog training?
Does anybody here really believe that folks who trained their dogs using harsh methods actually loved their dogs any less?
Is it really so bad to learn out of fear? Once again, I’m not advocating a particular training method, but if it works is it such a bad thing?
St. Lady raises a good point … I too learned many things out of fear of my parents’ reactions to things I did when I was younger. I learned right from wrong because I knew that wrong behaviors had negative consequences. I think I turned out OK. Couldn’t a dog?
Anybody who wants to read a good article about how Ian Dinbar started positive reinforcement and how he compares to Caesar Milan’s methods should definately click DogJudge’s link.

Regardless of how cute your puppy is when you bring him home, resist the temptation to delay dog potty training until later. Even very young puppies can be potty trained successfully.
A Crate
A puppy crate is a very helpful tool for dog potty training. A crate gives your dog his own “space” that he won’t want to soil particularly at night. Be sure he given plenty of opportunity and encouragement to go potty before he’s crated.
Choose The Right Food
You may be tempted to buy cheap dog food, but you will most likely regret it in the end. Cheap dog foods are full of fillers. Since the fillers can’t be digested and processed into fuel, they pass through your dog’s digestive system causing gas and creating large amounts of stool. Higher quality dog foods do not have as much filler so your dog passes much smaller stools
A Regular Schedule
Establishing a schedule for your puppy from the beginning will go a long way toward potty training him. Feeding should be done at the same times every day followed by taking him outside to relieve himself about 15-20 minutes after he eats. He should also be given the opportunity to go outside after naps and immediately upon being removed from his crate in the morning.
Communicating
Establish words that your dog can learn to associate with relieving himself. Use that word consistently to avoid confusing him. It’s also important to learn your dog’s signals that he needs to go outside; restlessness, sniffing around (especially in places he may have had an accident at some point) or going to the door can all be signals that your dog needs to go.
Constant Reinforcement
When your puppy does well, praise him. Using the word he’s come to associate with elimination, “good boy to go potty outside” will help him strengthen the connection between going potty and being praised.
Successful dog potty training requires patience and persistence but the pay off is well worth the effort. Well mannered dogs are a joy both to their owners and those around them.

Is your dog timid around people or other dogs? Is your dog sensitive to sounds? Agility training can provide the environment and structure to build confidence in your dog. Agility classes are a great place for people to learn about the sport and learn how to train, but the timid dog may take a long time before he is ready to venture from under your chair or off your lap.
A shy dog can only learn when it is inside its comfort zone. So all training must start where it feels safe, and all learning must be done in small increments. The best place for training and learning is probably the home.
If you want to train your dog at home, you need equipment and guidelines. There are multiple websites to be found with information about agility training. You can also study books and videos to get information, visual aids and lessons plans for both experts and beginners.
There is a wide range of equipment that can be both helpful and useful for dog training in your home. So you have to look at the location and available space, before you choose the equipment. Do you have a large yard? Well, good for you. But most people only have a small yard, where they have to setup the equipment every time. Or they might have to train in the garage or basement; or even in the living room.
For the timid dogs make sure your equipment is safe and sturdy. The pause table is a good place to begin your agility training. A 12″ high pause table, with adjustable legs for later use, is a good starting place for all size dogs. Remember with your shy dog, setup your table in an area that is very familiar to your dog. If your dog barks at anything new, just leave your pause table in your house or yard for several days, let your dog inspect and smell it on his own or with a little coaxing, but don’t push to fast, remember baby steps with the insecure dog.
With treats in a dish or his favorite toy placed on the table encourage your dog to get up on the table. This may take more than one lesson, be patient. If your timid dog looses interest in food or toys when you attempt something new, trying holding him and you sit on the table. If your dog is too big to hold, have him on leash and you sit on the table. If he backs away coax him, only treat or reward him when he comes to you, never when he’s pulling back away from you or the table
Later you might want the dog jumping on the table using a cue like Table, Stay on the table and Come when you are calling. Build your distance to the table slowly, so you do not push the dog to hard.
You can follow the above techniques introducing new obstacles as your dog is able to succeed. As your dog succeeds on each new piece of equipment you will see his confidence grow.
