Dog Obedience Training For Your Pet Dog

I was thinking of signing Beans up for a puppy training class. Are they worth the expense?
I asked a question about puppy trainig classes and yet I still am griped at for my choice of puppy.

Why do you train your dogs in obedience? I know that most people have their own reasons for doing it and I am interested in hearing some.
I have my own reason for doing it, of course, and I will share that with everyone later.

Great answers and great reasons everyone. My reason for training my dogs in OB is reliable off leash control.
That is my goal from the first day I put a collar and leash on a dog.

I just got 2 rescue dogs a 7 month old and a 6 month old Great Danes. I need to do some training. Help! What is the best book to buy? Also for names do you like Mindy, Wendy or Tina For the Female?

My dog is CRAZY. He is still a puppy(8 months)a boy.
He barks all the time and barks at other people.
He doesnt no how to sit or stay

After a few months of owning my Greyhound/Airdale we’ve decided that we should start some obedience training. Our dog, Nani, is extremely hyper and anytime we’d let her off her leash she’d go crazy and run away most of the time ignoring commands. This goes for in the house also, We’d tell her to come and most of the time would only come if we had food to give. She knows how to sit and how to lay and will do that on command 90% of the time. I’ve searched for about two days for information on training her and im getting a general outline of what I should be doing. I thought I might come here for some proven methods from other dog owners on Yahoo. Please let me know if you need any other info from me and I appreciate any help you guys can give.

I am planning on getting a dog, but I’ve never had one before and I don’t know the first thing about training. I want to train it so it doesn’t end up like my cousin’s dog who jumps all over people and barks at everything. I want my dog to be my buddy so please hook me up with some sort of books to give me the basics of training my new dog right.
