Hi Josh7pw,
Yes, I use treats at first to get them to return in the field and I run them with a check cord too.
When they learn that you will throw another for them when the get back and that you will not take the bumper from them as soon as they return they will return for another mark,

Question for you: how do you transition from this play retrieve to retrieving in the field/yard? Do you use a check-cord at first or use a treat, or…..?

WOW, you’re gonna be a big help when we get our puppy soon… We’ve only had adult dogs in the past, so this will be the first puppy, and we know how extremely important it is to train a puppy. Thank you for sharing; I’ll be sure to look at your other videos.

At what age or development level do you start to take the items away to toss again for retrieval? I have an 8 week old lab/golden cross and want to get her retrieval skills ready for hopefully field/hunt training.
